National Archives of Australia - Service Records

The National Archives holds over a million service records of
Australians who served during World War 1 and World War 2. Army
service records usually contain the members enlistment paper,
details of their Army service and postings, and may also include an
identity photograph taken at the time of enlistment.

A digital copy of a members Service Record can be added to the
National Archives online database, or you can
purchase a photocopy. A fee is charged for either of these services,
and you should contact the National Archives for further details.

Online database which contains the service details of over one million individuals
who served with Australia's defence forces, and the Merchant Navy,
during the period 3 September 1939 to 2 September 1945. The database
can be searched by
Name, Service Number and place of service. |

agent of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC)
in the Australian region, commemorates Australian war
dead for conflicts other than the world wars,
commemorates veterans who die post-war of causes related
to the conflict, and establishes and maintains official
Australian memorials overseas. |

Commonwealth War Graves Commission
Based in the United Kingdom,
its duties are to mark and maintain the graves of the
members of the forces of the Commonwealth who were
killed in the two World Wars, to build memorials to
those who have no known grave and to keep records and
registers, of war dead. |
