History of the 2/30th

  • The Battalion was formed in November, 1940, at Tamworth, NSW, Australia and later trained at Bathurst, NSW.

  • They served in Malaya and Singapore during World War 2, and fought major battles against the Japanese at various locations, including Gemencheh, Gemas and Ayer Hitam, and on Singapore Island.

  • On 15th February 1942, following the Allied surrender, they became Prisoners of War of the Japanese.
