Nominal Roll details

Military Medal (MM)

"This NCO was a member of "B" Company (ambush Company) in the action North of GEMAS on 14/15 January, 1942. After the battle was broken off and the Company were being led into the jungle, the Company Command became separated, Sgt. Doolan, assuming command of the forward elements, amounting to about 90 odd men. He led this party into the jungle and throughout the night vigorous patrolling and fighting ensued.

This all took place under Sgt. Doolan's orders and in most cases with his personal leadership. He continued to fight this body until daylight, when several parties were able to join and an officer took command.

All the men forming Doolan's party during that night have spoken to me of his courage and bravery and I am of opinion that such courage, bravery and devotion to duty **** with the efficiency and cool leadership *** the award of the Military Medal."
