Wallet with comb, colour patch and calendar - Private C. J. Smith, 2/30 Battalion

Physical description:
Leather; Plastic; Felt; Brown leather wallet with broken stud fastening. One side of the wallet is made up of a pocket with a clear plastic window. Inside this pocket is a green plastic comb and a plastic card printed on one side with a calendar for 1941 and the reverse with 1942. The other side of the wallet is divided into four pockets. The top pocket is smaller than the others and also has a clear plastic window. A colour patch for 2/30 Battalion is stored inside. The patch is a grey oval with a vertically alinged rectangle of purple next to yellow sewn in the centre.

Associated with NX2573 Private Charles James Smith from Lismore, NSW. Smith was born in Bangalow, NSW in 1915 and joined the AIF on 23 April 1941. He served with 2/30 Battalion in Malaya and was taken prisoner by the Japanese. He was kept as as prisoner of war in Thailand and died there on 1 November 1943.
