NX55887 - THORNCRAFT, Alan Albert, A/Cpl. - HQ Company, Carrier Platoon Involved in Bren gun carrier accident during training exercise at Bathurst on 17/5/1941; mechanical fault caused Carrier to crash over a bridge, killing the driver and seriously injuring NX55887; compound fractures of both legs; placed on dangerously ill list; spent many months in Hospital; right leg amputated below knee on 1/2/1943; discharged 24/3/1943; later became Assistant Manager of Repatriation Dept. Limb Factory.
